Registration: Opens May _, 2024 on 4-H Online (Must upload release form on 4-H Online & pay). Payment will NOT be charged until end of registration FYI. Ms. Cassie Ferguson will DOUBLE CHECK all registration on 4-H Online. She will make sure ALL forms, etc… are filled out correctly!
Cost: _______ per 4-H member and _______ per Adult Volunteer (Reminder, some 4-H Clubs such as Buffalo, Oakwood, & Leon offer 4-H Camp Reimbursements) This includes insurance, lodging, meals, and snacks beginning with supper on Tuesday and ending with breakfast on Friday.
Who Can Attend: All District 8 4-H Council officers plus representatives from each county. All participants must have completed the 8th grade to attend SURGE.
Objective:
To prepare teen leaders from the 21 counties in District 8 for leadership roles. These roles might be at the county level, or county committees, or their clubs. The hope is that participants will take information back from SURGE and share it with members back in their counties. SURGE is set up to be enjoyable and fun, but there is work too. Many workshops are set up that will require concentration and serious participation. Speeches are delivered for officer elections. 4-H members in grades 8-12 (of the current 4-H year) are eligible to attend. We work and we play. Play time is set up with activities that build teamwork skills and camaraderie in the district.
Travel/Chaperones:
The Leon County Extension Office will provide travel to and from this camp. Leon County Extension Office Staff will serve as chaperones. Depending on the number of youth participating, Parents may be asked to chaperone as well!

Location: Lakeview Methodist Conference Center near Elkhart & Palestine, TX
Description:4-H members who have completed at least the 3rd grade through 8th grade participate as campers. 4-H members who are 9th to 12th graders serve as teen leaders. This camp is organized and ran by D8 4-H county extension agents, D8 council officers, and the teen leaders. The kids have a lot of fun learning about various 4-H projects, playing games, dancing each night, and the MESSY games on Saturday! Great event for younger 4-Hers to meet their fellow 4-Hers from around the district.

Texas Brigades summer camps offer hands-on activities and curriculum to immerse participants in sciences such as ecology, biology, botany, agronomy, and more. Participants are learning from field and collegiate professionals who offer insight on ag-related career opportunities and businesses, while learning how they can steward natural resources and advance natural resource conservation.

Adults/Teachers can apply too! If you have 5 days to spare this summer consider applying for camp. You’ll learn and experience camp as a participant, leading & encouraging your team of adolescents throughout the week. Meaningful volunteer benefits include camp committee involvement, impactful relationships, outdoor passion re-ignition, professional development and networking, and youth hunting/fishing mentorships.

- MUST be 21 years of age as of May 1, 2023 to be eligible for this program and to chaperone TX 4-H events.
- Do NOT have to be a 4-H Alumni to apply.
- MUST be attending or graduated within a year from a college, university, or technical school.
- MUST be willing to enroll as a volunteer through TX 4-H & follow all volunteer guidelines, if selected.
- MUST be willing to chaperone 4-H members overnight to the activities selected above.
- MUST be willing to lead activities while serving as an intern.

Leon County 4-H is looking for young adults to help chaperone and serve as interns during various Leon County 4-H camps and retreats. Leon County 4-H intern’s Camp costs, food, & lodging will be paid for while attending the various summer activities. 4-H interns may be asked to lead an activity or help create activities or ice breakers during their time as an intern.
